M4 Competition models have an upgraded power output of 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, compared to 473 hp and 406 lb-ft on the standard M4. M4 Competition models only come with an 8-speed M STEPTRONIC automatic transmission. The standard M4 only comes with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The M4 Competition makes a good argument for dropping some additional coin, particularly the 2025 xDrive models which get a slight power boost. That said, we prefer the regular M4 for its manual transmission, rear drive and comparatively complaint ride.

Given that both cars utilize an identical engine and drivetrain in the current generation, depending on the transmission you choose, the M4 would be the faster car due to its weight loss over the M3.
